This box has been kicking around our house forever, at one point it was practically my brother's bedside table and then was abandoned at the top of our stairs.
see the attractive stains!
The other day I managed to open it at last, look what I found...
How cool is that? That picture isn't amazing so I'll replace it with another as soon as I can.
as you can see, it is quite dirty but so far it seems to be working and I even found a spare bobbin.
My new project will be to clean it off and re-polish it. The cover is missing most of its varnish because my Granddad had started stripping it down himself.
As far as I can tell, my machine is the same model as one on this website, which means it was made at the end of the nineteenth century. I know that its value is pretty much sentimental as I found one like this on ebay for £5! But it is valuable to me because I know that it has been used by my great-grandmother, my grandmother, my dad and (hopefully) me. Eventually I would like to have it in my house (if I ever manage to escape my home town!!!) as just a beautiful object and a piece of family history.
